Guidelines for the Implementation of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model
Although the exact form of the SEM will vary from site to site, the designated personnel implementing the SEM model should follow certain guidelines at each school:
Utilize The Baltimore City Public School System’s Systemic Gifted and Talented Education program guide.
Serve students in grades K-12, including those with special needs.
Have an appropriate and clearly defined budget, use the guidelines, complete the electronic budget and e-mail it to the GATE specialist by the deadline date. (Refer to electronic budget memo).
Provide the maximum academic benefit with allocated funds directed toward an impact on learning.
5. Implement Type I, II, and III enrichment activities into Action Plans as part of the regular curriculum and also as applied to enrichment experiences.
6. Emphasize increasing the number of minority students taking Advanced Placement courses in high schools.
Utilize the Primary Talent Development (PTD) model for grades K-2, which models best practices that provide learning experiences such that all children (K-2) have opportunities to demonstrate advanced learning capabilities or the potential for advanced learning.
Create student profiles, make instructional decisions, and recognize students who may be in need of gifted and talented educational services.
Incorporate the use of appropriate research based materials at all grade levels.
Ensure that students are provided the opportunity to learn foreign languages and maintain that learning through continued access to higher level studies.
Ensure all stakeholders (parents, staff & community members) are informed about the systemic GATE program.
Provide an annual Culminating Activity to showcase exemplary student work in May |
